Animal life in Jamaica - Holidays for Zoologists

WHA YA CAL DAT TING DER?

"Hello there sweetie"

You have no doubt  read my postings about how wonderful Jamaica is and what a great company Jamaican Treasures Luxury Villas are..er..No? Yes you have.
Anyway, I´m changing tack now and I´m going to tell you what a great holiday you can have in Jamaica if you are in any way interested in Zoology. (Wha dat?) What's Zoology? it's the branch of biology that deals with the study of animal kingdom.

There are many wonderful and wierd sites to see in Jamaica, most of the time this is just the holidaymakers after a few "refreshments" but in other parts there are some weird and wonderful residents of the animal kingdom type.

Jamaican Iguana
Crocodiles
Mongoose
Coney or Jamaican Huita
More than 200 species of birds, 25 of which are endemic and
21 sub species which are found nowhere else.
Over 100 different types of butterflies including
The Swallowtail Butterfly
The Yellow-billed and the Black-billed parrot
Seaturtles ( Leatherback, Loggerhead, Green Turtle and Hawksbill) &
Manatees.
Over a dozen different kinds of frogs
25 species of Harmless Bats!

That's not counting the creepy-crawlies and the sea life. So, If you are into a little Dr Dolittle and fancy having a natter to the animals, you are spoilt for choice.

James Bond Beach Jamaica

She shells shee shells on the shee shaw..Not easy to say Sean, is it?

James Bond, Dr. No, scantily clad, buxom blonde girls appearing out of the deep blue sea and some dodgey music (Three Blind Mice) are synonymous now with Jamaica and in particular "James Bond Beach"

James Bond Beach is east of Ochos Rios, on the northeastern coast of Jamaica and close to Port Maria which is great news for the tourists as there is plenty to see and do there. James Bond Beach is beautiful, well, the views are fantastic and it's a grand place to go snorkeling, sea fishing, swimming, Kyaking and bobbling about in a glass bottomed boat having a squint at the fishes below. Great stuff!

If you plan to stay near the James Bond beach and for some mad, insane reason you are not staying in one of Jamaican Treasures Luxury villas, then there is plenty of accommoation close by.(They have over 300+ luxury villas you know?)

The tourists and the locals love James Bond Beach and you will as well, there is a great place to eat, not too far from the beach that does traditional Jamaican food called the Ochos Rios Village Jerk Centre. No! not that type of "Jerk" (1960's dance craze) "Jerk" is a traditional method or style of cooking that is native to Jamaica.

If you don't fancy that then there is the Almond Tree Restaurant close by that does international cuisine, don´t worry, you won't starve, there are vendors on the beach who will sell you all sorts of goodies. You could always practice your James Bond voice and ask for "shome shalmon shandwiches" or "sheveral items of shee food" or maybe not.

Jamaica Villas - Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee

JAMAICA BLUE MOUNTAIN COFFEE

A very pretty Jamaican girl

A bag of Blue Mountain Coffee beans..Happy now?

Coffee. Who doesn't like Coffee? Everyone I know loves coffee. Black coffee, white coffee, strong coffee, coffee with " a little something" in it. There are numuerous ways of drinking coffee and we all have our favourite brands and blends.
I live in Andalucia, Spain, and everyone here drinks coffee and believe me, it's strong! At my local Café, La Plaza, one cup of Santa Christina from Paco the camarero (waiter) and you don´t sleep for a week, he makes it like he drinks it and that's very strong indeed.

Now, I was talking to Lisa, the boss woman of Jamaican Treasures, that fine luxury villa rentals company with 300+ villas all over the world (Yeah, we got it the first Blog!) and Lisa was telling me about "The best coffee in the world" and that is, so Lisa say's Blue Mountain Coffee from Jamaica (where else?)

Now, I have never tasted Blue Mountain coffee but I am assured that there is a bag of it winging it's way from Jamaica to my very own house in the mountains of Andalucia and so I look forward to giving you my expert opinion on this very product.

I suppose your wondering what the very pretty Jamaican girl has to do with the Blue Mountain Coffee? Well, if you go to the Blue Mountain Coffee website at http://www.bluemountaincoffee.com/ you will see this little sweetie on there as well, come on now! I´m only human.

To show theres no hard feelings, Í bunged the bag of coffee beans photo on as well, that is to keep the BMC police from accusing me of sexism (The very thought!)

Golf courses in Jamaica

JAMAICAN GOLF BLOG

The Home Of Jamaica Golf - Review Of Jamaican Golf Courses

Golf. If, like me, you are a complete philistine and refer to Golf clubs as "bats" then this post is not for you, Oh no! Golf is a mystery to me, I could never understand why big lads want to look like they got dressed in the dark at a fancy dress shop while the owner was out. Plus fours? Orange tartan shirts? Behave lads!

But, in the interest of fair play (no pun intended) I am going to add my little entry for all of those people who like to walk about manicured lawns..digging ruddy great divvots out of them. I am going to tell you about a wonderful Blog called "Jamaican Golf Blog" and it is very good.

I don´t pretend to understand the jargon but by the looks of things the people who look after the Jamaican Golf Blog really know their stuff. They have all the courses marked out, green fees, U.S.G.A ratings (I take it that would mean United States Golf Association?) resort highlights and lots more great information, it really is what the Internet was intended for, INFORMATION!

Anyway, I´m more than happy to point you in their direction as you will no doubt want to have a couple of goes at golf when you come and stay at any of our delightful villas in Jamaica.
Whilst I am at it, may I point you to one of my favourite Luxury Villas, a wonderful place that is 1 minutes walk from Silver sands beach and is between Montego Bay and Ochos Rios, Villa Cannon Cottage.

Jamaica Villas - Jamaica Restaurants listings

JAMAICA RESTAURANTS LISITINGS

Adam Richman - Man verses Food

As readers of this little Blog will know, I do like to keep the great and the good informed of what's going down in Jamaica and other parts of the world that Jamaican Treasures have luxury villas. It helps, I think, to have some local knowledge if you are off around the world and one of the most important things to know, is where to eat?

Oh yes! where to eat in Jamaica? and what to eat in Jamaica? the best part of ones holiday, I think. Jamaica has plenty to offer in the way of food and drink, so, I have decided to scour the Internet for the best Jamaica restaurants.

My plight was solved when I came across Frommers.com who have a ready made listing of all the very best places to fill your belly in Jamaica. Like restaurant Akbar in Kingston. Akbar Indian Restaurant in Kingston gets a great write-up on the Frommers "Restaurant Listings in Jamaica"

Almond Tree restaurant in Ochos Rios is a Jamaican cuisine restaurant and I´m sure you will get the national dish of Ackee and Salt Fish here.

Café Aubergine, Moneague /Ochos Rios serves up all your favourite Italian and French favourites. The Frommer foodie dude tells us he filled up with "
sautéed breast of chicken in a lemon caper sauce over a bed of linguine or grilled lamb chops with a honey mustard sauce." No flies on that guy!
Da Gino's Italian Restaurant in Negril serves up all the very best Italian dishes, and, if you are an avid fan of the Italian pasta and Pizza, then this is the place for you.
Passage to India. Where do they think these names up? Who cares? Passage to India has such a great recommendation that you will just have to go there and see for yourself!
"This is the most visible and most desirable Indian restaurant in northern Jamaica, one of the preferred favorites of the expatriate British and American communities living along Jamaica's North Coast."

Wow! Beat that then!

Anyway. The Frommers site lists 75 of the very best Jamaica Restaurants, Bars, cafés and eateries. Also, they list the locations, addresses and average price for a meal so you can see what your likely to be paying out. They also rank them in price and quality.

This is an excelent website and I suggest you save it to favourites. There! Frommers Jamaica Restaurants.

Jamaica Villas - Falmouth Jamaica Fishing Charter

Falmouth Jamaica Fishing Charter

I do like to promote the businesses that are dotted around Jamaica and especially those businesses that would interest the good people that are staying at one of our Jamaican Treasures luxury villas.

Fishing, deep sea fishing, Marlin fishing, spear fishing, snokeling and reef diving are all great activities and if you are in the Caribbean then it is ten times better than anywhere else and comparable to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The list of beautiful sea creatures is endless.

My favourites are the Sharks. Yes, Sharks! There are many types of Sharks that happily swim the Caribbean waters, not a care in the world and bothering noone. If your lucky, you will see some. What types of Sharks?

Caribbean Reef Shark, Silky Shark, Whale Shark (a great big softy) Great white (Jaws fame but they are only out in the very deep water and not near the shore...Phew!) Grey Reef Shark, White Tip Reef Shark, Nurse Shark and Leopard Shark. Is nthat enough Sharks? There also some fish knocking about the place. Like Mahi Mahi, Spanish Mackeral, King Fish, Snook, Tarpon and lots more.

Anyway, I wanted to let you know about Luminous Laggon Tours. They offer all sorts of activities, like parasailing, scuba diving, water skiing, snorkeling tours. They cater to all visitors, so they say. Anyway, the boat looks good and it sounds like great fun. Take a look at their advert for more details.

Jamaica Villas - How to hold Weddings in Jamaica

JAMAICA WEDDINGS VILLAS

Map of Jamaica weddings villas locations
I get asked quite often "how many people get married in Jamaica?" Well, I´m happy to tell you, "I don´t know!" and you can quote me on that. Lot's of people choose to get married in the Caribbean and the Bahamas because it is a romantic and exotic place to hold a wedding ceremony. Let's face it, Montego Bay in front of a water fall on a balmy summer evening or St Normans church, Piddlethorpe in the rain. "It's a no brainer"

Bright blue sea, golden sands, palm trees swaying in the cool breeze, father in law legless..er..sorry, I meant the proud father giving away his daughter to some handsome fellow. It's got it all. Jamaica weddings also has one other thing that sets it aside from the ordinary. Fantastic properties!

Jamaican Treasures specialise in holding weddings in the Caribbean, we have the specialist staff who will make your big day go without a problem, they are professional and enthusiastic and they really know how to make a party swing.

The villas we have are suitable for weddings of all sizes, from the small cosey type to the grand, flamboyant, elegant type. We have weddings villas for 4 people or for 40 people. We at Jamaican Treasures like to think we can accomodate every type of wedding, family reunion, business or private function.

There are a couple of things to remember when you are getting married in Jamaica, you must be on the Island at least 24 hours before the ceremony and you must have all the correct documentation. But don´t worry, we´ll let you know everything you need. A full list can be found at the bottom of this page http://www.jamaicantreasures.com/wpackage.php

take a look at our weddings villas page on our main website and you'll see some of the most wonderful Jamaica Villas, properties that you would be proud to get married in and hey! Think about the wedding photos! It´ll beat the usual photo of everyone stood in St Normans church doorway with the wind blowing the brides veil all over the place.
