Home sweet home. |
To see how far you have travelled you really do need to look
back, that’s my philosophy, you may have a different idea. With this in mind I
found a really good set of photographs and a small story to accompany them on
the Al Jazeera.com website. The photographs are by Alison McCauley and they are
as beautiful as they are pathetic. Cuba Property
The photographs are of some of the most beautiful buildings
in Havana, Cuba, buildings that have been allowed to fall into complete ruins
but still are what some people actually called ‘Home’ Historical buildings such
as the Hotel Bristol in central Havana, left to go to ruin but still occupied
by former employees. I wonder what the people who stayed in this grand hotel in
the thirties and forties would think if they could see what has become of this
once beautiful Cuban lady?
The photographs also show the absolute insolvency of the
Castro led regime as far as providing homes for the Cuban people is concerned
and in maintaining some of the most beautiful and iconic buildings anywhere in
the Caribbean. Please take a look at the Al Jazeera Blog and the Alison
McCauley photograph’s and see for yourself the state of these Cuba buildings.
There is, however, hope: Castro and the regime has, since
2011, allowed the buying and selling of Cuban property and this is establishing
a Cuba property market, this in turn will drive the need to both build and
renovate properties all over Cuba, not just in Havana. Check out the latest
Cuban property on Havana Houses website.
