Where to go in Jamaica - A Rain Forest Adventure

Zip lining through the Jamaica Rain Forest!

I may have mentioned on a previous posting that I am an ex – Army man? Well, I am. I was a proud member of the Irish Guards, her majesties finest soldiers. Well, in training we had an assault course that was the terror of the American Marines, they hated it, we on the other hand, we loved it. So, what’s all this reminiscing about? I saw holidaymakers in Jamaica doing exactly what we used to do; they get people to dangle you by a rope and then shoot you through the jungle tree tops as fast as a bullet!!
The Jamaica Rain Forest adventure trail.
I saw a video on YouTube whilst looking around for materiel on this wonderful and fascinating tourist attraction. The Rain Forest Adventure trail is at Mystic Mountain, Ochos Rios and it has lots of things to offer the tourists, not just being dangled from a cable and zipped through the jungle canopy at a vast rate of knots.
There is the Bobsled ride, the Canopy Zip Line (See the video) Mystic water slide and much more. If you are a Green tourist (No! I don’t mean if you are as thick as Whale Sandwich I am referring to those people who are concerned with the welfare of planet earth.) Then this is one tourist attraction you just cannot miss.
I must just add that if you are a bit scared of heights you had better give the Sky Explorer a swerve as it is a ride that takes you 700 feet above the Rain Forest on what looks like a swinging park bench. Mind you, there are cracking views of places like Dunn’s River Falls and the Caribbean Sea.
You can spend a day at this wonderful Eco tourist attraction and have the time of your life. There are also other attractions close by, such as the beautiful Dunn’s River Falls, The Coyaba River Garden and Museum and Dolphin Cove, just to name a few. Go on, enjoy yourself!

Nightclubs in Jamaica - Amnesia

"Wow! that's what I call a spliff!"

I was trawling the Internet, as I often do, no, as I always do, looking for items of interest on Jamaica and the Caribbean Islands. A lot of the time people will point me to this site or that and in this posting, this is the case. I was pointed in the direction of one of the hottest nightspots in the Caribbean. Where this place is and what is it called?
Amnesia!
No. I don’t have a problem recalling the name of the nightclub, it is called “Amnesia” most likely because you get so “out of it” that you can’t remember where you’ve been and what you got up to (Great in some cases!)

Getting down in Amnesia
Nightclub Amnesia can be found throbbing away nicely on 70 Main St, Ocho Rios and according to the great and the good, the music is roots but does tend to drift to international tastes at time. Judging by what I’ve seen myself, Amnesia is a place for a “lively” night and by the reviews it gets Amnesia seems to be one of those “Must see” places.
Any regulars at Amnesia who would like to add to this posting, please, fell free to do so and send in some photos while your at it.

Dunn'a River Falls, Ochos Rios, Jamaica

Dunn's River Falls, Ochos Rios, Jamaica

I thought I would give you a treat and bung some videos onto the Blog and so I have scoured Youtube for some decent videos of Jamaica and I came across this video for Dunn's River falls at Ochos Rios (Eight Rivers)

There isn't eight rivers at Ochos Rios, the name is a misnomer, a misinterpretation of the Spanish word "The Waterfalls" Las Chorreros by the British. This was the setting for a rather dodgey Tom Cruise film called "Cocktail" I don't know what was worse, Tom's acting as a cocktail barman cum Romeo/Gigalo or the florid shirts the director made him wear for the film.

Buy hey! here's people enjoying themselves in Jamaica, that's great to see. We also have a great villa here that I would like you to see.

Blue Shutters Villa - Runaway Bay, Jamaica

Blue Shutters, enough to send you off your rocker!

I'm continuing my update of the Jamaica luxury villas and one that really brings a smile to my face is Villa Blue Shutters at Runaway Bay. I think "Cute with class" is the best way to describe this 3 bedroom luxury villa that sits right on the waters edge at Runaway Bay.

Villa Blue Shutters has 1 acre of it's own grounds in which you can wander at your liesure, theres also a private beach cove as well. You are guaranteed peace and privacy here. Mind you, saying that, if it's an activity holiday your looking for then you have that here as well.

Blue Shutters Villa is close to the famous Breezes Resort and Breezes Golf and Country Club with all the activities available for you to enjoy, you will have a rare old time. Further down the coast a bit you have Discovery Bay, Ochos Rios and all the tourist activies, there is also the fantastic Dunn's River Falls.

James Bond Beach Jamaica

She shells shee shells on the shee shaw..Not easy to say Sean, is it?

James Bond, Dr. No, scantily clad, buxom blonde girls appearing out of the deep blue sea and some dodgey music (Three Blind Mice) are synonymous now with Jamaica and in particular "James Bond Beach"

James Bond Beach is east of Ochos Rios, on the northeastern coast of Jamaica and close to Port Maria which is great news for the tourists as there is plenty to see and do there. James Bond Beach is beautiful, well, the views are fantastic and it's a grand place to go snorkeling, sea fishing, swimming, Kyaking and bobbling about in a glass bottomed boat having a squint at the fishes below. Great stuff!

If you plan to stay near the James Bond beach and for some mad, insane reason you are not staying in one of Jamaican Treasures Luxury villas, then there is plenty of accommoation close by.(They have over 300+ luxury villas you know?)

The tourists and the locals love James Bond Beach and you will as well, there is a great place to eat, not too far from the beach that does traditional Jamaican food called the Ochos Rios Village Jerk Centre. No! not that type of "Jerk" (1960's dance craze) "Jerk" is a traditional method or style of cooking that is native to Jamaica.

If you don't fancy that then there is the Almond Tree Restaurant close by that does international cuisine, don´t worry, you won't starve, there are vendors on the beach who will sell you all sorts of goodies. You could always practice your James Bond voice and ask for "shome shalmon shandwiches" or "sheveral items of shee food" or maybe not.

Golf courses in Jamaica

JAMAICAN GOLF BLOG

The Home Of Jamaica Golf - Review Of Jamaican Golf Courses

Golf. If, like me, you are a complete philistine and refer to Golf clubs as "bats" then this post is not for you, Oh no! Golf is a mystery to me, I could never understand why big lads want to look like they got dressed in the dark at a fancy dress shop while the owner was out. Plus fours? Orange tartan shirts? Behave lads!

But, in the interest of fair play (no pun intended) I am going to add my little entry for all of those people who like to walk about manicured lawns..digging ruddy great divvots out of them. I am going to tell you about a wonderful Blog called "Jamaican Golf Blog" and it is very good.

I don´t pretend to understand the jargon but by the looks of things the people who look after the Jamaican Golf Blog really know their stuff. They have all the courses marked out, green fees, U.S.G.A ratings (I take it that would mean United States Golf Association?) resort highlights and lots more great information, it really is what the Internet was intended for, INFORMATION!

Anyway, I´m more than happy to point you in their direction as you will no doubt want to have a couple of goes at golf when you come and stay at any of our delightful villas in Jamaica.
Whilst I am at it, may I point you to one of my favourite Luxury Villas, a wonderful place that is 1 minutes walk from Silver sands beach and is between Montego Bay and Ochos Rios, Villa Cannon Cottage.

Jamaica Villas Ochos Rios - 5 Bedroom luxury Villas

5 BEDROOM LUXURY VILLAS AT OCHOS RIOS

Scotch on the Rocks - Ochos Rios
I know what you are going to say; "Why is it called "Scotch on the Rocks"? Well, let me explain.
When we write about the properties that we have advertised on any of our Caribbean holidays websites, such as My Luxury Villas we do like to give you all the information, including the names of the properties and so it is sometines necessary to explain why the properties end up with such unusual names. Here goes;
Scotch on the Rocks is so named because Sitting on the rocks just above the Caribbean Sea, "Scotch on the Rocks" was originally owned by a Scottish Lord.
In the 1980s, the Earl of Mansfield sold the house to a Jamaican family, renowned for founding Red Stripe Beer. Today, Scotch on the Rocks is still owned by members of that family. There, thats why!
Anyway, the reason this property is featured on my blog is because I think you should go and stay there. It´s a fantastic place and has all of the following
  • TV
  • DVD
  • Cable
  • Phone
  • Internet facilities
  • Stereo
  • Ceiling Fans
