Lisa: Nose to the grindstone at the Pelican Bar

OK, I’m not one to grumble and moan, even when someone is having a much better time of it than I am. Oh no. But, there are limits.

I am sat wearing my wifes dressing gown (no! It was just the nearest thing and I was in a hurry…er..) and typing to a friend on Skype  who we are meeting later today for lunch, prior to watching Liverpool FC and Manchester City FC kick the snot out of each other in the premier league when “Ping!” I get a tap from Lisa, the lady who runs a world famous villa rentals company, you may have heard of it (unless you live in a cave) Jamaican Treasures, I may have mentioned this once or twice on this Blog.

Hard at it, another poor soul scratching a living.

Anyway, Lisa is in Jamaica just now and having a hell of a time, working apparently, or so she tells me. Lisa sent me some photographs of a truly amazing bar, I’ve seen nothing like it and I have seen some bars in my time (Ghana, Senegal, Belize, Germany, Cyprus, Barrow-in-Furness to mention a few places) it’s made out of sticks and palm leaves? Like the type of place one of the little Piggies would have built to keep the Wolf away.

I have decided that words alone could not describe this amazing stilt pub. It is Robinson Crusoe meets James Bond and from what Lisa tells me, the food is fantastic.

I keep getting asked questions by people who would like to go to Jamaica but are too lazy to Google the questions for themselves. One question is "What and where is Tryall?"

Villa Whispering Waters - Discovery Bay, Jamaica

"WHISPERING WATERS!" I can't hear a thing!

I don't suppose you will want an explanation for the name of this delux holiday villa situated at Discovery Bay. The villa has a wonderfully romantic name of "Whispering Waters" and is the sister villa to Keela Wee (Who's name is also romantic but you did needed an explanation to!).

Villa Whispering Waters, like Keela Wee is at Discovery Bay, between Rio Bueno and Ochos Rios. Whispering Waters was built in 2006 and has 7 bedrooms with 7 en-suite bathrooms, private beach, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, poolside BBQ, loungers, chairs and a staff of cook, housekeeper, butler, gardener and laundress, after all, we don't want you overdoing it now, do we? Your on vacation and when you get inside Whispering Waters you will realise that. It is beautiful.

Veronica Campbell Brown made sure that Jamaica featured on the winners podium when she came second in 10.97 seconds to win the silver medal behind American bookies favourite Carmelita Jeter in the women's marquee 100-metre event at the World Championships at Daegu.

JAMAICAN GOLF BLOG

Golf. If, like me, you are a complete philistine and refer to Golf clubs as "bats" then this post is not for you, Oh no! Golf is a mystery to me, I could never understand why big lads want to look like they got dressed in the dark at a fancy dress shop while the owner was out. Plus fours? Orange tartan shirts? Behave lads!

But, in the interest of fair play (no pun intended) I am going to add my little entry for all of those people who like to walk about manicured lawns..digging ruddy great divvots out of them. I am going to tell you about a wonderful Blog called "Jamaican Golf Blog" and it is very good.

I don´t pretend to understand the jargon but by the looks of things the people who look after the Jamaican Golf Blog really know their stuff. They have all the courses marked out, green fees, U.S.G.A ratings (I take it that would mean United States Golf Association?) resort highlights and lots more great information, it really is what the Internet was intended for, INFORMATION!

Anyway, I´m more than happy to point you in their direction as you will no doubt want to have a couple of goes at golf when you come and stay at any of our delightful villas in Jamaica.

WHERE TO PLAY GOLF IN JAMAICA



"Don´t move...don´t you dare move!"

I suppose one has to be fair or at least, seem to be fair, when writing about holiday activities in Jamaica, no matter how daft the pastime or sport may seem to the writer. So, here goes.

Golf! Just like Jeremy Clarkson, I neither play nor understand golf! As Jezza explains "When you see golf on the telly, it's grass..sky, sky,sky...grass!" He might have added it´s also the most amazing display of fashion crimes known to man, come on now, Plus Fours!!! Theres also the snobbery of the golf clubhouse, or that is the way it is portrayed on the telly.

No matter, Golf courses and Golf Clubs in Jamaica.

There are more than enough golf clubs and courses in Jamaica to keep the most rabid of golfers happy. Let's just highlight the Tryall Golf Club which is in Sandy Bay, Hanover, Montego Bay.

Tryall Golf Club is brilliant and just like other golf clubs and courses around the world, it has everything the golfer needs, such as 18 holes with flags in them, long grassy bits, short grassy bits, holes with sand in them, some ponds and clubhouse and of course beautiful blue and green sky..grass...sky,sky,sky...grass.

The other great thing about Tryall at Sandy Bay is that Jamaican Treasures have the most fantastic villas for rent there, yes! right on the long bit that you bat the little ball down. Have a peep at the Tryall site Link
