MEN VS WOMEN - Church cook-off - Food - Jamaica Gleaner - Thursday | December 1, 2011

MEN VS WOMEN - Church cook-off - Food - Jamaica Gleaner - Thursday December 1, 2011

Reverend Joseph regretted booking a wedding the same day as the Cook-off!
The St Andrew Church of Christ annual cook-off - men vs. women. It’s very nice to see that Jamaican men and woman are just as daft and competitive as everyone else. It sounds like war in the church hall, pots of jam at ten paces and see who can cozy up to the vicar to obtain them few extra points. Take a read, it’s a gas.

Levi Roots wins recipe row - Jamaican food

"Actually, old boy, the name is Keith!"
I do like to bring you interesting jamaica stories, no one wants to be thought of as a "one trick Pony" and harp on about the truly fantastic, amazing luxury villas that you can rent from Jamaican Treasures. No! I like to diversify.

Heres a great story from my favourite online newpaper The Jamaican Observer, all about a dude called Levi Roots (actual name is Keith Graham..not a very "Yardie" name!) who has defended a case brought against him by his ex-partner (business partner) from Brixton, London, who claims Keith, or "Roots" ripped off his recipe for some of the Jerk food mix listed in his "Reggae,Reggae Cook Book"

The judge decided in favour of Mr Roots. Read the article, it's very interesting.

Jamaica Villas - Jamaica Restaurant week

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy!

Here’s a great video I found whilst looking for a Jerk recipe. The video is for Jamaica Restaurant Week, a choice of some of the finest Jamaica restaurants get to show off their menus. Check out the amazing pizza and the little cutie presenting this little video. Mind you, Stephanie Scott rabbits on a bit but I guess she's just excited.
Theres no excuse for not knowing where to eat when you book one of Jamaican Treasures Villas.

The Best Bar in Jamaica

Lisa: Nose to the grindstone at the Pelican Bar

OK, I’m not one to grumble and moan, even when someone is having a much better time of it than I am. Oh no. But, there are limits.
I am sat wearing my wifes dressing gown (no! It was just the nearest thing and I was in a hurry…er..) and typing to a friend on Skype  who we are meeting later today for lunch, prior to watching Liverpool FC and Manchester City FC kick the snot out of each other in the premier league when “Ping!” I get a tap from Lisa, the lady who runs a world famous villa rentals company, you may have heard of it (unless you live in a cave) Jamaican Treasures, I may have mentioned this once or twice on this Blog.
Hard at it, another poor soul scratching a living.
Anyway, Lisa is in Jamaica just now and having a hell of a time, working apparently, or so she tells me. Lisa sent me some photographs of a truly amazing bar, I’ve seen nothing like it and I have seen some bars in my time (Ghana, Senegal, Belize, Germany, Cyprus, Barrow-in-Furness to mention a few places) it’s made out of sticks and palm leaves? Like the type of place one of the little Piggies would have built to keep the Wolf away.
I have decided that words alone could not describe this amazing stilt pub. It is Robinson Crusoe meets James Bond and from what Lisa tells me, the food is fantastic.
Take a look at this great Blog

The things that really piss me off! No.1 Techno Rage

Angry, freaked-out business man pulling his hair while yelling at a cell phone. Stock Photo - 417486

"Aaaaaagh!" Mr Blogspot's mobile had run out of charge.

Mr Bogspot at work (reconstruction)

I am in a really, truly, utterly foul and very unpleasant mood today, really, this is no joke. I enjoy something called "Techno Rage" that's going totally loco when the technology won't work.
Office workers are prone to this sort of angry reaction when the PC crashes, the system is slow and unresponsive, the mouse / keyboard / webcam / etc won't work, they hit the screen, keypad, tower or laptop, throw the mouse about, lash out at anything that comes to hand, swear out loud and curse god, the IT department, Bill Gates and even spit at the screen (my own favourite that one)

My Internet is via satellite and has been playing up, so I have been making adverts, writing articles and all the other things people like me do, then, when I come to upload, the server cuts out halfway through and I lose everything I have been doing. Grrrrrrr!

My laptop, Toshiba A80 decided to get on the bandwaggon, it has decided that it will run as slow as possible and then crash, even when I try to "Roll Back" that is, take the computer back to another date when it worked perfectly, Tosh won't have it. Why? I don't know?

My wireless connection, a Belkin router, F5D7234-4 v3 has also come to join the party, that has started to give messages and playing up, cutting out willy-nilly.

I have broken one mouse, it was a quick death via the office wall, the router has teeth marks on it now because I have bitten it several times, you can't see the screen on the Toshiba A80, it looks like it's been left out in the rain.
I have screamed obscenities, I have cursed god, Microsoft, Belkin, Toshiba, god again and the cats have had to be pretty swift to aviod ending up drop-kicked into the olive grove.

Just as I'm calming down and have stopped cursing, my mobile phone rings.

What is left of the mobile phone, a Nokia, is now being swept up and dumped in the bin, unfortunately, not being made of rubber, it didn't bounce when I threw it at the floor. Why did I throw it at the floor? I threw the bloody phone at the floor because as I answered the call, the battery died!

I am not alone in this, I'm not a member of a club of one, there are many people who go mad when things don't work and to be fair, it hasn't just been the technology.
I had a burst pipe in the wall, the plumber came out and repaired it, two weeks ago and told me the builder would come and repair the damage, I'm still waiting.
The dishwasher started leaking, I'm waiting for the repair man to call me, that was a fortnight ago. I am also waiting for a guy to call and repair a set of gates on a villa I look after, that's also been a few weeks. It all adds up.

Why am I telling you all this? Why am I not rattling on about Jamaica and villa rentals? I am letting you in on this because some of you will work in an office, all of you use a computer (Ow him kna all dis ting? I know you use a computer because your reading this Blog!) and you will have seen and heard your co-workers, boss, IT man, friends and such like start to scream and shout, slam their fists on the desk, throw paper and other items and even storm out of the room screaming "Where's my ####### gun! I'm going to see Bill Gates!"

They just have a little touch of 'techno rage' and my advice is to let them blow, they'll be OK once they realise that they haven't switched the PC on or that you have to plug the damn thing in. They'll be cool.
But, if like me, the the cause of the problem really is a malfunction with the equipment, I suggest you retire to a safe distance and watch the gear going out of the window.

Do you suffer a little bit from techno rage? Do you throw the technology out of the window, bite the computer, swear at passing Nuns or threaten to blow up your local Commet or PC World stores? I would love to hear from you if you do, we would be kindred spirits.

Jamaica Villas on Youtube

The beautiful Stephanie of Jamaican Treasures

I´m left in no doubt that you, my little blogmonsters, think I am a bit of a one trick pony being as I post these Blogs on a pretty regular basis, but I am not, I can diversify when the need takes me.

Today, for example, yours truly uploaded 7 new videos to his Youtube Chanel, not just Jamaica Villas but Anguilla and the Cayman Islands as well. If I say so myself, the videos I made are very good and I look forward to hearing your comments on them.

As you can see from the Youtube Video above, this one features one of the Jamaican Treasures staff, the wonderful Stephanie.

Another classic video.

Jamaica villas - Links to Jamaica websites

The missing link

Links. What are links? Well, you have Golf Links, you have cufflinks, missing links and so on but the links I´m interested in are website links. What are website links you may ask? I'll tell you.

If and when I find a website that has interesting items about Jamaica villas, Jamaica, the Caribbean, holidays and travel, I copy the websites Url (address) and I then add a little description to my Blog or webpage to tell people what the link is about. Like te following;

Jamaica Villas. Luxury holidays villas in Montego Bay, Jamaica

I added the url of Jamaican Treasures (http://www.jamaicantreasures.com)to/ the text "Jamaican Treasures" this turns it into a clickable link. I add the description to let you know that the link "Jamaica Villas" will direct you to a website which has holiday villas in Montego Bay. Simple. In this way we can share information over the Internet by linking to each others sites.

Why am I telling you this? Well, you may have a website that is of interest to myself or other like minded people and you would like to share your thoughts and information with us. In which case I will be more than happy to add your link to this Blog and to other websites I have relating to Jamaica villas and travel.

The other benefit of linking to other sites is that they will link back to you, this helps your Blog or website get better rankings on the Internet search engines. If you would like to swap links with my Blog or a list of websites that I have (see below) then just email me and I'll be happy to exchange links.

Here is my information for your links page.

Jamaica Villas & Vacations: Jamaica Villas and apartments for vacations in Jamaica, Bali, Mexico, Thailand, Bahamas and worldwide.

Jamaica villas - Just Pinged my Blog with Weblogs.com

Ping!
I do like, from time to time, to pass on interesteing websites or bits of information that would help fellow Bloggers with their own blogs and I found a very good website a long time ago called Weblogs.com and it is a pinging tool.

What's a Pinging tool?

When we make changes to our Blog, website or feed we want the search engines to find it as quickly as possible, in which case, the best way is to send the information yourself. You do this in two ways.
  1. You go to Google / Yahoo! /MSN submit Url page and add your sites name, a codeword to prevent spam and click enter.
  2. You ping the information via XML-RPC signal (RPC = Remote Procedure Call) this tells the server that the url has had content updated.
http://weblogs.com/home.html This is the website you need to go to. It's easy to use and it is FREE. Enjoy.

Jamaica Villas - Links to Jamaica Treasures villas Blog

JAMAICA VILLAS BLOG LINK PARTNERS

Mr Blogspot never quite grasped what we meant by "Links"
Now, the best way for any Jamaica Blog or website to get found on the Internet search engines, other than having great content is by linking to other well respected websites in the same field or interest as your own website or Blog.

We are always on the look out for other websites and Blogs that are interesting to people who search for the likes of Jamaica Villas, Jamaican holidays, holidays in the Bahamas, holidays in the Caribbean, Bali, Mexico and other parts of the world.

Another search term dear to us is "Jamaica weddings" as we have a staff that are experts at creating the most memorable of wedding days, we are also experts at family get-togethers and Jamaica reunions. We will link to other websites promoting weddings in the Bahamas, Caribbean and such like. No matter we are in competition as linking to competing sites are the very best links.

If you think you have a website, private or commercial that would make a good link partner for us, then please, get in touch with us and we will be happy to link to you, providing it is a relevant link. We will also encourage our existing link partners to do the same and so in no time you will have a complete listings page.

The better the quality of your links, the greater chance you will have of being at the top of the search engines such as Google, Yahoo! MSN and such like. Stay away from link farms (These arrive via email requesting links to third party sites and also asking for multiple links) these are considered Spam.

Want a links? Just leave your link information in our "Comments" field and we will do the rest, we would like a link back though! (No such thing as a free dinner)
Here are a list of link partners available to share links with you:

Jamaican Villas - Deep sea fishing in the Caribbean

DEEP SEA FISHING OFF JAMAICA

"That's the bait sorted, wheres my rod?"
I do like to use my Jamaica Holidays Blog to provide readers with information on what to do when they get to one of our fantastic luxury villas and so I would like to point you at an interesting deep sea fishing website called "Stanley's Deep Sea Fishing" a website for sea fishing off Negril, Jamaica.

If, like me, you've ever done sea fishing you will know it´s really good fun, sometimes you can actually catch a fish or two, well, that's how I do it.

Stanley's site has some cracking happy snaps of anglers with their catch, some of them are most impressive, the fish that is, not the anglers. Stanley's does invite you to " Try your luck at catching Blue Marlin, Mahi, Wahoo (He's making these bloody names up now, I´m sure! and Tuna" we can also see whales, Dolphins and Turtles

The business is owned and run by Cap'n Stanley Carvalho, a salty old sea dog born and raised in Negril. take a look at Stanley's site for fishing in the Caribbean, I´m sure it will give you plenty to think about when you plan your next visit to Jamaica or the Caribbean. Enjoy Cap´n Stanley's Site Link

I was also looking at another website Ochos Rios Fishing Charters and Boats Rentals on World Wide Fishing and it look cool. according to the site, you are free to choose what you do on an Ochos Rios Fishing Charter, like visiting James Bond Beach (James won't be there, well, not James Bond) see the Dunn's River falls, go Snorkeling or just relax and let the world go by. heres the link to Ochos Rios Fishing Charters.
